Difficulties în Editing the Licence Work

My work, 1946 election from Romania , refers to the falsification of the people’s volition on the 19th of November 1946. Since then till 1989, Romania was under a foreign regime from the traditions and historic development of our contry. The falsification of the scrutiny from 1946 was a very important step in the countries communization by the communists.

I had many difficulties in editing my licence since the very beginning because it deals with a very controversed theme. It is known that the elections were falsified then but we can’t find out by which percentage because the vote bulletins had been burnt imediately after the scrutiny. Moreover,when the communists realised that they had lost the elections in favour of the National-Peasantry Party, they destroyed the innitial reports recived from the votes centres that showed victory of the Opositin. It seems that the communists replaced that reports with others from which it could be seen that they won the scrutiny. On the other hand, The National-Peasentry Party lost his popularity that he had enjoyed during the interbelic period and in Romania it was notorious that the Power could influence the final results in his favour. So, it is very difficult to establish the vote difference by which The National-Peasentry Party had won.

After 1990, it hadn’t been written a book to debate this controversed moment. On the times of the communist regime, some authors wrote aboute 1946 elections but in such a manner that indicated the communists had obvious won the scrutiny. I can’t belive that testimonies full of political implications but, at the same time, it is obvious that no one knows what really happend then. At this moment and after serious researches, it is generaly accepted that The National-Peasentry Party had won but it is not known a exact number of the votes expressed for it. My licence is based especially on documents and on the remembrances of the peoples that lively participated at that events. But the informations from the documents don’t coincide sometimes with the dates from the memoirs. Moreover, sometimes I had found different informations about the same event in two or more documents. The documents that I had used were published on anthologies but there are many references on the books that study that tumultuous events at documents that hadn’t been published. I must go to the State’s Achives from Bucharest to consulte the whole mentioned documents but I didn’t have the time to do so. Also, I need to consult other states archives to find useful informations about 1946 elections from Romania, especially The United States, The United Kingdom and The Russian archives becouse this countries were the main protagonists that influenced the postbelic world.

Several books of memoirs that could be useful to my work appeared in other coutries like The United States, The United Kingdom and France, coutries where there had took refuge many people opressed by the old regime. I found references about that memoir books in other books that I had consulted but when I tried to look for a specific book appeared outside, I couldn’t find it. From this point of view, our libraries are very poor in funds of foreign books. Moreover, when I tried to look for a book that treats the subject of 1946 elections from Romania written by an foreign author, I had the same problem. More grave is that I could’t find some romanian books that would have been vital to my work in the libraries from Iaşi or that from my native town. I had found out that some of that books were published on limited editions and libraries hadn’t received them. I could undertake the notes about the books and documents that I hadn’t found from another books that I had read but it is risky to de such a thing because the commision that would interogate me could ask me to describe more detailed the informations that I have undertook. Another problem that I had confronted is the system by wich the libraries gives you the book that is very slow. From this point of view, a lot of time is lost and you could lend only few books or the book that you are looking for is not free because is borrowed.
