Social psychology is a sub-discipline of:
vPsychology -- the scientific study of the behaviour
of individuals & their mental processes.
vSociology -- the study of social systems & of
complex social processes.
Definition
Social psychology is:
"the scientific study of how individuals think and
feel about, interact with, and influence each
other, individually and in groups" (Bordens &
Horowitz, 2002, p. 3).
We study social behaviour.

Greek philosophers.
Auguste Comte (1798- 1857), the French philosopher,
is generally credited with initiating sociology.
Comte -- social processes can be studied scientifically.

Lewin -- the founder of applied social psychology.
